After all these years Betty White is still a household name known by people of all ages. What began this year with a Super Bowl advertisement by Snickers has now turned into a Facebook frenzy that has gotten fans of Betty polling for her to be part of every major television event. The question is why would everyone ranging from teenagers to senior citizens want an 88 year old woman to run the show?

I’ll tell you why, because it’s funny. Fans of Betty White love her sense of humor and the coy way she pulls off the joke. Admit it, when you watch her you can’t wait for the innocent, grandma resembling woman to say something inappropriate. When the Snickers commercial first aired during the Super Bowl people couldn’t stop talking about how funny it was to see Betty White getting tackled during a backyard football game. The fact that they would even put her in that role draws your attention immediately.

Bouncing off of this a fan decided to use one of the biggest marketing tools available to people now, the internet. In particular, he used Facebook to set up a poll to get Betty to host Saturday Night Live. Previously, Betty White had turned down the offer to host the show but after about half a million fans stated they wanted her to; how could she say no? The ironic part of this story is that it doesn’t end there. After the successful hosting of SNL the fans of Betty decided that wasn’t enough. Now there is a new poll on Facebook for Betty White to host the Academy Awards.

So where does it end? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching the woman work and have always been a fan but where does this leave Betty? If the mass majority keeps voting to have her host various events it puts her in a tough spot to say no. At some point the fans will have to realize that as much as we love her Betty White cannot do everything.

Where does the line get drawn when it comes to the majority vote making the decisions?
