Re: Uganda's Pied piper: I hate to bring this up, but the question over lack of awareness/involvement on the part of American public may require self-examination…

Advertising can play many roles. It can make you feel strong, educated, and beautiful and in some cases, even self-conscious. Imagine how careful advertising agencies have to be when they promote the little blue pill. Thinking about the idea, one can imagine a young vibrant man relaxed beside a beautiful woman under an apple tree, loaded with beautiful red apples. However, before then their lives were not that special. They were lying on their sides with their backs towards each other staring into space. The new difference in their lives - the little blue pill.

Often when one thinks of an older woman, the image is one in glasses, with white hair and slightly overweight. However, today’s salon services let older woman know this perception does not have to represent them. Mature women are entitled to a vibrant life which can be portrayed through their style. They can be defined with well-groomed hair, beautifully painted lips, manicured nails and vibrant colored clothes. Youthfulness is not only a matter of age but a matter of appearance and style. Beauty need not be reflected only in the young but the mature as well.

Advertisers should capitalize on this market with an aging US population of baby boomers. In today’s economy, people are being forced to retire in their early sixties and some even in their 50s. In many ways life is not ending for retirees once they leave the workplace. Many are embracing life for the first time. Some are going back to school to get an education, fraternizing with young students or taking cruises where they can meet many of the guys who are taking the little blue pills. Some are even cougars while others are enjoying younger friends. To keep up, older women have to look the part, and one thing is sure - Appearance matters!

Does the media portray the mature woman in an appropriate light?
