Re: Uganda's Pied piper: I hate to bring this up, but the question over lack of awareness/involvement on the part of American public may require self-examination…

College Style

William Entzminger Jr.

While watching television a couple of weeks ago, I began to surf all of the channels looking for a good college football game to watch. I had already looked at the line up for Saturday’s games the day before and really didn’t want to see anybody but my Virginia schools. Suddenly I was hit with unfamiliar images from a game that I passed during my channel surfing. I immediately turned back the channel to see which game it was and discovered that the reason why the images were so unfamiliar to me was because the University of Maryland had new uniforms.

The University of Maryland had some of the most colorful and flamboyant uniforms for a football team that I had ever seen. I’ve always been a big fan of fashion when it came to sports and these guys took the cake with matching socks, gloves, and even shoes. The Maryland flag was incorporated into the uniforms on the shoes and half of the helmet. At first glance I thought that they were very weird uniforms but as I began to look at the detail of them I realized how creative and cool the designs were.

This is a great marketing tool for the University of Maryland. This was definitely a fun and playful way to market the college. The uniforms kept my attention on that particular station long enough for me to see commercials from the university promoting its education programs.

These uniforms brought excitement to the idea of going to college and bettering yourself. All of the students were wearing the Maryland colors while cheering in the stands. It almost made me desire to go to the University and relive my fantasy of playing college football and getting another degree. Having a college education is a huge deal in today’s society and this university revealed a brilliant marketing plan to catch the attention of individuals watching the game young and old who may be on the fence about bettering their lives through education for a better lifestyle.

How do you feel about Maryland’s uniforms?
