From: Is thin really in?
I think it is a little scary how the myth of thin is beautiful is constantly perpetuated. Billboards, print ad, tv and movies, all of those women…

Okay, so there's a lot of discussion on this matter. I and my family have used Airborne. It's not a cure-all, though at one point it may have been,…
Fox’s American Idol, the juggernaut of the airwaves and a marketing mother ship, is taking another step toward world domination. Walt Disney’s Hollywood Studios is opening a live performance Idol attraction in late 2008. Their goal is to “try to recreate the excitement of the final 24.”
Somehow, though, Simon Cowell and the “Wonderful World of Disney” don’t seem to be a match made in heaven. But then again, every Disney flick has an evil villain, doesn’t it? Cruella DeVil, Captain Hook, and now the pithy Brit with career-ending, tear inducing one-liners.
Simon wears black as do Darth Vader and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The details of the attraction are still in the works, but idol can’t possibly be as engaging without Simon, can it? He cuddled a cute puppy this year on television, hugged a sweet, young failed contestant – all the while reducing hopefuls to blubbering, quivering shells of their self-deluded selves.
From the Coca Cola drinking cups seen on the judges’ table every week to result-night, Idol Ford commercials and the constant co-branding of other products, American Idol has truly become the Emperor of Marketing.
King of All Media, Howard Stern step aside!
The most ardent American Idol Media tracker, a website called Vote for the Worst.com, says “What a terrible idea! But of course, the ‘sheeple’ will love it and stand in ridiculously long lines at Disney to get on stage just like it was “The Real Thing.” Idol producers, Fremantle Media, are already cashing in on the idea and buying new summer homes for all of their staff members as we speak.”
Are you a one of the “Sheeple” who will be rushing to Disney to partake and possibly get the rumored daily prize: front line passes to the actual American Idol auditions? Do you think the Idol craze is getter larger and the show’s marketing power stronger than ever, or is the concept on the cusp of fizzling out? What are your thoughts on this monster of a marketing machine and on the Disney version of Idol? Good idea or bad?
