What you're thinking!

Re: Uganda's Pied piper: I hate to bring this up, but the question over lack of awareness/involvement on the part of American public may require self-examination…

Do the Right Thing

Did you ever think that an ethics class could be taught in less than 2 minutes? Can a few words written in chalk change the action of our youth? Could images of people helping people start a new trend of kindness towards others?

A recent television commercial has successfully targeted the youth of America to take the appropriate actions. A Volkswagen commercial shows a teenage boy getting into Dad’s shiny black Volkswagen CC. He is shown strapped into his seatbelt and carefully checking all his blind spots when the car’s backup camera shows a handwritten note from Dad reminding him the difference between what is right, wrong and the current mileage of the vehicle. That is one way to get across to your kids.

Liberty Mutual Insurance has been running television ads since 2006 showing people helping people. In the series of commercials random acts of kindness are viewed by others prompting them to repeat similar good deeds. What would life be like if each person followed these simple examples?

This world is filled with so many visual images that it begins to dull the senses. Violence, crime, greed and hate seem to flood our TV screens, scream at us over the airwaves and hit us smack in the face in black and white print. What would happen if we demanded as much or more good information as we were supplied negative news? Would the broadcaster’s ratings fall if they added one more feel good story to the lineup on the evening news? Would product sales decline if the ad agencies found innovative ways to market products without berating the competition? The two commercials discussed above show this can be an effective marketing tool.

In Romans 12:21 it states do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Doing The Right Thing). It is our time to step up and be heard. This is not a religious quest this is a human voyage and it starts with one person doing the right thing. Keep the dream alive.

Would you rather buy insurance from the company that promotes all the bad things that are possible in life or shows you there are people willing to step up and help in times of need?
