Re: Uganda's Pied piper: I hate to bring this up, but the question over lack of awareness/involvement on the part of American public may require self-examination…

In Beijing, the Walt Disney Company has raised the ire of parents, with a billboard sporting its logo and a young girl in lingerie. See it here. This type of imagery is becoming more prevalent in today’s marketing campaigns.

As a parent, I really do not want my twelve year old daughter watching Disney or Nickelodeon shows, because of the sexually explicit content. Companies are using the networks’ young female stars to advertise girl’s clothing lines featuring short skirts and tops that expose the midriff. Even the Cheetah Girls dolls wear sexually provocative clothing. Is this the way you want your 6 to 14 year old to dress?

Kids are very self-conscious and want to fit in with other children. The hour long advertising campaigns, I mean shows, our kids watch, present the idea of fashion and beauty as sexy, age-inappropriate dress. Sex should not be used to sell products to a 12 year old.

How would you feel if you were with your family at Disney World and Snow White came out in a bikini and the dwarves in Speedos?
