What you're thinking!

From: Uganda's Pied Piper

Re: Uganda's Pied piper: I hate to bring this up, but the question over lack of awareness/involvement on the part of American public may require self-examination…

When Steve Jobs introduced the Apple iPhone, my boyfriend immediately purchased it but I refused because I thought it was only the latest trend. Years later, after nearly all of my friends had one, I finally decided to give in and see what all the hype was about. I wanted to experience this product firsthand because it seemed the whole economy was marketing for Apple. I purchased the third generation and have not been able to pay attention to another brand since.

When Christmas came and my daughters wanted music players, I knew without a doubt that they would get iPods because I experienced the iPod through the iPhone. When the Apple representative showed me how my girls could Face Time on a Wi-Fi connection, I walked out of Apple with two iPod Touch 4s despite the cost of $200 plus and without regard to their ages (4 & 7). The Face Time looked so fun I called AT&T monthly to see if my upgrade date changed. Needless to say when it did, the iPhone 4 was in set up less than 48 hours after.

Word of mouth is so strong for Apple that I only told my sister about the features of my phone and she purchased an iPhone 4 with her upgrade. I have not viewed any Apple advertisements, don’t know when any products are hitting the market, and don’t have any intentions to purchase them when they do. However, after receiving a text message from my friend yesterday stating that “Today is iPad 2 day,” I wanted the iPad 2.

I have no idea what the iPad 2 does but that did not stop me from calling my local Apple store to see what the demand was like. The representative told me there were more than 200 customers in line when they opened! That led me to Google the places that sold it and I called every AT&T, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Target within an hour radius of my home to find out all the iPad 2s were sold out. I ended up purchasing from Apple online. Now I think I’m addicted to Apple products and am wondering if Steve Jobs has an 800 number to call that can help me say iQuit! In fact, their slogan should be “Once you buy Apple the other fruit becomes forbidden…”

Do you think it’s possible to get addicted to products that you can’t consume?

Yes, it is possible to get addicted to products you can't consume. Some examples are pornography, television, video games, Facebook, etc. These are worldly things, and when you are addicted to the world, you get "sucked into it". And as a result you lose focus on what's really important (the things above). Not to mention as you are consumed with these addictions you miss out on life! Once a moment is gone we cannot recapture it! Think about it...
