Green is a new trend that is often viewed as boring or "hippie". Never having seen these commercials, going off of your description, it seems that…
My children love beef jerky. Each year we hunt and make our own deer jerky. Jerky makes a great and tasty snack. I was appalled when my children went to the store with their grandmother and came home with what appeared to be a can of chew. It was really Jack Link’s beef jerky that had been ground up into a substance that looks like tobacco. What message is this sending to our children? It is teaching them that it is cool to chew tobacco?
This is similar to the candy cigarettes when I was a child. While these products may not seem harmful since the chew is made of beef jerky and the candy cigarettes are really bubble gum. But what is the underlying message? I think that as we are aiming for a healthier nation these products should be pulled from the shelves immediately and be banned.
Many people nowadays are finally coming to realize that the use of tobacco products can have serious side effects. This is the reason why many cities and states have made it illegal to smoke in public places and restaurants and within a certain amount of feet from building entrances. As a proud non-smoker I can say that I believe it is a personal decision to smoke or not to smoke and as Americans we have the right to make our own decisions. Take a moment to think about how our actions as parents affect our children and the choices they make.
Should companies such as Jack Link’s be able to market to our children in a way that makes them think chewing tobacco is cool?
