Even if it was in fine print at the bottom of the movie trailer I wish they would be required to say “You have just seen the best parts of this movie and nothing more can be gained from seeing it besides an intense desire to have two hours of your life back.”
Movie trailers are usually the best part of the marketing mix: posters, trailers, advertising and cross-promotions, media and publicity, and an official online website. They show you the lead characters at the height of the plot with all of the alluring body chemistry with a few exciting explosions and car chases. It is from this captivating movie trailer that you believe you can lose yourself for a few hours of indulgence and even possibly a night of passion with your spouse inspired by the romance in the movie.
It only takes a few minutes into the movie before you are painfully aware of the lack of substance and quality. Regardless, the million dollar bucket of popcorn and the unavoidable desire to stay through the movie because the trailer looked so good is inevitable.
After these lousy movies, my husband and I talk about the trickery in the marketing of the crappy movie disguised as a thriller or true romance. It seems to ease the pain a little and make us feel like we got at least something for our money.
One of these days, we’ll summon up the courage to stop thinking about hurting the feelings of the box office attendant and ask for our money back.

I have seen my share of bad movies, so bad that I wondered why I wasted my time or money watching it. So, I understand how you are feeling. What annoys me is when you put a DVD in the player, and the movie is ruined by profanity. I don't feel this is necessary to produce a good movie. When I do encounter a movie with much profanity, I usually take it out of my player, or walk away (if my husband is watching it). Movies like those do not interest me.
And about that Marketing campaign used to market crummy movies, you will have this. This is how the marketing promotes and sells the movie. If they mentioned that the movie was awful, people would not want to see it. And also that person from the team who promoted the movie negatively would be out of a job. Think about it.
