Marketing the Economy

Those that aim to market baby products must appeal to the parents in a way that will get them to go buy their particular product. Many of us with children know how important it is to have a brand of diaper that you can depend on. One particular brand, Luvs, has a commercial that compares Luvs to another leading brand. In this commercial, both diapers are saturated with balloons filled with water. After an elapsed amount of time both balloons are empty and the other brand could not hold the amount of water while the Luvs brand was successful in holding the full contents of the balloon.

Ok, so I’m sold on the commercial and decide to try Luvs diapers. During the day, I had no problems with leakage of the diaper. At night, now this was a totally different story. My child’s bed was completely soaked. So now I’m wondering what the problem was because I know I had just viewed a commercial where a whole water balloon leaked into this same brand of diaper and the diaper held up perfectly. I continued to use the diapers, and the same situation occurred not only during the night, but also during the day, and I was changing the diapers more frequently during the day. I used more diapers than usual which meant I had to purchase them more frequently.

Times are hard and diapers are expensive. CVS pharmacy had a sale on their brand of diapers where I could get two packs with a higher quantity than the Luvs brand. So I went to the store and brought two packs of the CVS brand diapers and have continued to use them since with no leaks. I am totally happy using a brand that is not name brand, my child is drier, my pockets are fuller, and my laundry load is a lot smaller.

Is a brand name always better?

No, that is why I use the Dollar General brand for my grandsons. The name is what is making it the higher price. They are cheaply made but when that big brand name goes on it then the price goes higher. The name might be good but the product is the same or worse than what you use without that name on it.
