California’s same-sex marriage laws may be a resounding boom for both gay tourism and the wedding industry in upcoming months.

Weddings mean beaucoup bucks to retailers, hoteliers, florists, bands, caterers and jewelers. According to the Wedding Report, the average price tag for a wedding is a whopping $28,704.

Which means Gay marriage will be good for the state’s economy. One UC study approximates gains of roughly $683.6 million in coming years and the addition of 2100 new jobs to the rolls.

“More than two decades of gays being out of the closet has proven that gay friendly destinations attract tourism dollars.”

Some industry planners in CA have already begun planning strategically for the time same-sex marriage is made law in California. But the referendum could get crushed in November, so others, including advertisers, are waiting in the wings.

98% of the members of San-Francisco-based Association for Wedding Professionals International say that they will actively reach out to gay couples.

“With luck, the parties will get as big, if not bigger, than heterosexual weddings, which would be great for local economies.”

Macy’s has already begin running full page ads for its wedding registry.

“First comes love. Then comes marriage. And now it’s a milestone every couple in California can celebrate. Let Macy’s Wedding Gift & Registry help you start your new life together.”

Are gay weddings here to stay, or are they a passing fad? What other products or businesses do you think can thrive in and around gay communities?

I don't think there should be gay marriage. It's sad to say people are already seeing how they can make money off of this. God made man and woman to be together not the same sex together.

Whose right is it to say what is right or wrong when it comes to marriage? there have been several articles in popular magazines that have shown that there is not all that much difference between the two, and even some that show a higher rate of those who proclaim themselves to be “gay” when they are younger end up turning out “straight”. While some of it might be genetic some of it is also habitat based. Me personally, well I’m straight but some of friendliest people I know are not because they see both sides of the story.

I think that plenty of cottage businesses will be taking advantage of the influx of new marriages that will be popping up all over. I can't wait to see what develops.

each and everyone of us are given the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. this was granted to us by our forefathers. The only shame i see in this is that it has taken sooooo long to happen. btw i am a straight male. do however work with and i am also fairly good friends with many gay or lesbian couples. They love and feel for each other in many cases more deeply for each other than most hetro couples from my expierience.
The part about making money from this come on this is america and well we will make a buck off showing some one ow to cook an ant with a magnifying glass if some one is willing to pay.
