Marketing the Economy

Paint Your World

Paint Your World

Diane Laliberte Wicknick

Marketing can affect our lives in many ways. While recently watching television I came upon an ad for Krylon Spray Paint. I don’t usually get glued to the TV by an ad but this one caught my eye. There were photos of mailboxes, painted and decorated using Krylon Spray Paint. This commercial showed the can of Krylon Spray Paint to the right of the mailbox photos. The photos were being described as they flipped through them.

Krylon was making the point that your mailbox can be as individual as you with the help of its spray paint. There were camouflage mailboxes, dog mailboxes, cat mailboxes, and even an elephant mailbox. When the photos flipped to the bee mailbox the announcer says that with so many colors to choose from you can have your own individual mailbox design and then he says, “Aren’t bills easier to take when they come from a bee?”

Krylon Spray Paint has taken the concept of being an individual consumer to being part of the big picture. With the state of the economy now everyone is struggling to pay their bills and we all know that there is nothing funny about this but Krylon makes us feel like we are not alone, even if we are individuals.

Doesn’t this make you want to go out and paint your mailbox?
