Selling Baby

Selling Baby

Pregnant at 16?!

Ok, maybe it’s not so bad if your name is Jamie Lynn Spears.

Rumor has it that this young mommy to be will receive $1 million for her baby’s first pictures. Wow! That’ll put a child through college!

Angelina Jolie was paid a whopping $4.1 million back in 2006 for pictures of her beautiful baby girl Shiloh. That’s a record!

Now that Jolie is pregnant again, I wonder how much her new baby’s pictures will be worth?

And talk about being loaded with cash, Jennifer Lopez is set to make between $4 to $6 million for her twins. Cha-ching! Christina Aguilera was paid $1.5 million for the first pictures of her newborn son Max. Bring in the money baby!

But naturally, not all that money goes into celebrity’s pockets. Many of them are donating the money to charity. Like Angelina Jolie, who donated the $4 million from baby daughter’s Shiloh’s pictures to a favorite charitable cause.

•   Nicole Richie’s baby Harlow’s pics went for a bid of $1 million
•   Jessica Alba will indeed get a nice load of cash for her baby’s pictures
•   Gwen Stefani’s little Kingston racked in $575,000.

So why is it that celebrities make so much money selling their babies’ pictures? Is it simply because we love babies? Well, maybe it is. I mean, what could be better than seeing a beautiful newborn baby on the cover of a magazine? It’s much better than seeing that train wreck Britney on every cover.

And speaking of Spears, her oldest son, Sean Preston, was the number four, top-paid baby according to Forbes’ magazine’s Top-selling Celebrity Babies of 2007. Her younger son, Jayden James, didn’t quite make the list.

And yes, Angelina’s beautiful baby girl Shiloh was number one on that list.

Pictures of babies on tabloid covers sell magazines. Why? Are stars actually having babies because it pays? What are the social implications of the material costs of babies?

Selling your baby pictures for money, even charity, is insanely scary.

I'm shocked there wasn't more public backlash over the Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy. You would think that talk radio would even be chatting about this issue?

The "hot button" teenage pregnancy issue has totally been swept under the rug during this election year

Celebrities getting paid that much money for having babies is an injustice to society. Millions of regular every day people have babies every day and don't get paid for it. We have to pay for it ourselves though hospital bills and doctors. There are people who cannot afford to have babies as such young age 16. Why is Celebrities getting paid that much money for doing something so natural being a woman. If these magazines companies have that much money to just "throw away" by giving money to celebrities without earning it working like everyone else. Why don't they help the sick, poor and people in need with the millions of dollars. Celebrities have plenty of funds already and "If" they want more they can earn it like everyone else. I think it should be regulated.

It is really starting to drive me nuts that with as much as Jamie Lynn Spears is been in the news and in the magazines no one is really saying anything about her being only 16 years old and now she is going to get paid a million dollars for it. What are we now telling other teenagers? They are can make money if the have a baby? As adults we know that will not happen for an every day child but a child does not have all the knowledge we do and I know at least with my teenagers they think they know better and don't listen till they are in trouble. I see that happening a lot more know with young girls. I also think that people buying these magazines need to stop and let them know things have gone to far

I want to support Whether they give money to charity or not the charity they give to should benefit babies themselves. As much as we can complain , when we support these people they get money which they can do what they want with. they are not required to be role models and most fail miserably at being them even when they try to . Many young people have babies every day and what they wouldn't give for a small sum of money to raise the baby never mind one million for a few pictures. As much as I do not want to support this behavior we do as consumers every day, unless we speak to the exact cause we cannot really comment too badly.
