Very well written. I could not agree more there is no such thing as a "happy period" other than they confirm you are not pregnant. These ads are probably…

Teen Dream

Teen Dream

Tracy Pettingill

As I am getting ready for my son’s senior year in high school, I try to remind myself that it would have been more expensive if he were a girl. As you look at the clothing, shoes, and latest gadgets that they want for back to school, it just amazes me as to who thought up the concept for some of the items.

Take designing your own shoes for instance, now who else is going to want to design their own shoes but a teenager of course. That was a smart move for Nike; I am paying $115.00 for those shoes to be made. Normally, I wouldn’t even dream of it, but the guilt trip comes that its senior year and he wants to look good. Boy, does that sound like a line I would have given my father and now I’m falling for it.

It’s to the point I don’t even want to go into the mall because it is one big advertising dream for teenagers. Everywhere you look is something new and exciting they must have for school or else they might be the only one without it. I know I have to finish shopping for his clothes this weekend, but it is so hard for me to pay $25-30 for a T-Shirt just because he can say he got it at a certain store. Years ago whoever decided teens would be the ones to market to knew what they were doing. They monopolize the malls and steer fashion in directions that sometimes I would have never dreamed.

What teen fads are out there now?
