I am proud to be a mom and I just have to ask “WHY!?!” of marketing campaigns today. Let’s all sing the song…I believe the children are our future, so “WHY” are marketing campaigns providing more influence than our schools?
My teenage daughter recently brought the idea of a change in wardrobe to me. No problem I thought, she is growing, needs a new look, hey I understand the pressures of a high school teenage girl. What I was not prepared for was the ridiculously short skirts and plunging necklines that were being tossed my way. Whoa, now Missy just wait a minute, fourteen is not the new red light district.
“But Moooooooom, this is what everyone wears, if I don’t stay with the trends, I am going to be the outcast, you don’t want that do you?” To which I quickly respond, “Why yes, of course I want you to be the outcast…pfht”
After a scream fest, slamming of doors, I walk into a room where my teenager is engulfed in TV and I notice these scantily clad models on the tube advertising everything from makeup to toilet paper….really! Of course she wants the short skirt, it’s forever imprinted in her impressionable little brain.
Are the images of teens in today’s media appropriate?
