Romans 12:21 says “do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” It is our time to step up and be heard. This is not a religious quest this is a human voyage and it starts with one person doing the right thing. Keep the dream alive.

I believe in teaching our children to do the right thing. Why? Because some day when they are out there in the world without us to turn to they will be able to recall what we have said and they will “do the right thing.” One day my daughter and I were standing in the living room she had just gotten dressed for the day when she said “Mom this shirt is too small it’s time to give it to someone else.” I began to cry at the thoughtfulness my daughter had learned from my husband and myself.

The media does not carry many positive messages for today’s youth. We need more commercials like the Keebler commercial with two little kids looking at the last cookie in the box and the older girl gives it to her younger sister. The message says give and you shall receive. There needs to be more of this and less of the Jersey Shore messages that teach young people to drink fight and have sex.

I think it is wrong that the media targets children with mindless shows that teach nothing but laziness and violence. I believe as a society we should be raising our children by being active parents not sitting them in front of the TV and forgetting them.

What media today sends the right messages?
