What you're thinking!

From: Dr. Advertiser, M.D.

This was a very well written article. While I do agree with you on some of the statements I also disagree. It would be nice if there were no side…

Very well written. I could not agree more there is no such thing as a "happy period" other than they confirm you are not pregnant. These ads are probably…

Marketing the Economy

Woman on the Street

Woman on the Street

Norma J. Straub

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall, there she stood on the corner of MLK and Skinker Blvd, walking from car to car with a large pickle jar, sometimes containing candy bars, sugar pops, etc., other times it displayed only the small contributions that had been dropped while passing.

I wondered why this attractive woman stood on the corners, asking for funds daily, six days out the week. On Saturday, her children would be there to support and solicit funds. It was obvious their mission and vision was the same. There was no shame displayed, they were courteous, very polite, whether there were contributions or not, it was always "God Bless."

The season changed, it was a cold day in November, she was there, dressed warm, with a cap, muff, gloves, boots, and of course a coat. It didn't seem to matter about the weather, she had a purpose, this time of the year, the jar was half- full, as the woman on the street made her way in front of, and beside the cars, receiving some insulting remarks from some male/female competitors, she continued to do things her way, others came in the name of a church, sport teams, shelter, even the homeless, but she had established her position, eventually they went away. She was there from early morn to just before dark.

Again the season changed as I drove the familiar route going to and from the workplace, it was 110 degrees, there she was, dressed for the occasion, walking to and fro, with the same message, and as she approached my car, she said, "oh I'm sorry you already gave, thank you miss. I pulled to the curb and beckoned her to come to the car, and she responded, paying attention to the cars (customers) that got away. Why do you stand on the corners, like this? She replied freely (she carried no signs), I was unable to obtain a job, so I was cut off welfare/food stamps, so my kids and I came up with a plan (marketing plan), we purchased a "Peddler’s License" with some of the monies. This is how I buy food, pay my rent, buy clothes/shoes for my kids. Again I contributed to the cause, realizing that no matter how we plan, save, or even educate ourselves, we could end up the woman/man on the street.

Is this a marketing endeavor?
